Dinno
Dinno is a small dinosaur and a large curiosity. He believes that everything which is gone has left something behind.
Dinno’s story
Everyone else’s great-grandparents are in photographs. Dinno’s are in stone.
That did not make him sad. It made him curious. If his family was that old, then his family had been somewhere — and whoever was somewhere leaves something behind.
So he looked. Under stones, along dry riverbeds, in the pale clay where a hillside had slipped and shown its inside.
He found a shell that had no business being on a mountain. He found a stone that rang when he tapped it.
And in a cave near Kutaisi, in old mud that had turned to rock, he found footprints. Enormous ones.
Dinno climbed into one and sat down. It held all of him with room to spare, and he sat there a long while, thinking.
That was the day he decided what he was for. Now he goes nowhere without the notebook and the glass, and there is always a stone in his pocket whose story he does not know yet.
